Julius sighed as he rubbed his temple in an attempt to prevent a migraine. "I regret last night."

"You’re such a lightweight, I keep forgetting…Haha, but we went through all the wine I got from the Hatter~! And I even got you outside for a little while~" It had been an almost Herculean effort to get Julius to take a break long enough to have a drink or two, but somehow Ace had managed it through sheer force of annoyance and very high quality wine.

Julius sighed in frustration. “Of course you don’t.” He felt stupid for holding out hope the knight might actually have known their location for a change. The Clockmaker vaguely remembered wanting to tell Peter that brining Alice to their world was a mistake. However, taking a look around, he doubted he had been headed in the right direction. Maybe that was a good thing. Peter, for as long as Julius could remember, frequently threatened to order his execution if he ever entered the Castle’s domain.

“It’s not going to take 17 times periods to get back; all we have to do is find the main road and follow it.” Then again, Julius didn’t know if it was his own drunken meandering that got the two lost in the first place, or if it had been one of Ace’s infamous shortcuts. The former was a frightening thought. To think there existed a state of mind where his sense of direction was a bad as Ace’s. “Stop smiling. This isn’t funny.” As Ace was disassembling the tent, Julius decided to test gravity again. The Clockmaker slowly stood and somehow managed to stay on his feet.

"Hm? Of course it isn’t funny~" The knight nodded sagely, as if there was a lot of wisdom contained in those words. "I wasn’t laughing, I was smiling. You can be happy without thinking something is funny. Ah, but you might not know that, hm?" Ace’s grin turned sly as he spoke; all the stakes had been pulled up, and he was now removing and folding up the fabric of the tent. "After all I don’t think even I can remember the last time you smiled~" He proceeded to let out a melodramatic sigh that showed exactly how sad he found that thought to be, before finally packing away what was left of the tent.

"Do you feel like you can travel alright? I’m not sure how far I could carry you, but I can try if that’s what I need to do~" Ace could see how tentatively Julius was testing his footing; it wouldn’t be a problem if he couldn’t walk quickly, but it would be an issue if he couldn’t walk at all.

50: Wedding!AU

"I’m just not too sure we need to go to this much trouble, you know?" Only a few time periods after the proposal and already Ace was being asked to think about wedding plans. Honestly they did take a while to plan but honestly, he had trouble understanding why all this was necessary at all. Why not just walk into the church and ask a priest to say the lines really quickly (and threaten him into it if he refused)? That was all that mattered, wasn’t it?

The knight let out a long-suffering sigh and leaned back in his seat, as much as he could without falling over. “Is this really necessary at all? I feel like it’s enough just to say we’re together, no need to put a special name on it~”

Ace did manage to return by the wedding, even a couple of time periods before it - he was in a generous mood, and as much as he did like driving his soon-to-be husband up the wall, he recognized a deal-breaker when he saw one. The hustle and bustle of various workers was less than pleasant and severely hindered the knight’s attempts to find Aro in the house, but he wasn’t one to ask for directions. And so, with a small retinue of attendants who continuously tried to drag him away for fittings or second opinions, Ace continued to wander the halls in search of his fiance.

The advisor that Ace had sent to him had assisted him greatly in planning the wedding and finally everything had begun to run smoothly for them. Now all he had to do was wait and pray that the knight would return to him in time for the wedding; But he was fairly certain that Ace understood being late for their own wedding would only result in a severe bout of pain and quite possibly death depending on how late he would be. Reclining on the couch in his study,  he tried to relax for a few moments, but was finding it increasingly difficult as servants continually filtered out asking for opinions or further instructions on specific tasks.

Having ruled out other possible locations, it wasn’t long before Ace made his way to Aro’s study. The clamor of the attendants around him was all the warning he gave, a few seconds of noise before he tried the door and, finding it unlocked, pushed his way in. He grinned his usual cheery grin as he was greeted by the sight of the chess piece stretched out on the sofa. “I’m back~” he announced brightly, paying no mind to the staff that hovered near the doorway as he wandered easily into the room, making a beeline for the couch. “I said I would get here in time and I did, haha! It sounds like you’ve had your hands full recently.” Of course he had; planning a wedding was no small matter and Ace was well aware of that. He leaned over the back of the sofa, and stared down at Aro expectantly.

The Memory of Trees - Enya

This glen was a place Ace had found a while back, and had only managed to rediscover a handful of times. Something about it was strangely elusive, as if it could only be found by accident, and that was saying something for Wonderland’s generally non-Euclidean terrain. Technically anywhere should be accessible, especially considering Ace’s other duties, and yet he never quite managed to end up in this place on purpose. Regardless, he was happy to spend as much time there as he wanted, now that he had stumbled upon it once more. It was a rare treat. The spot was grassy, lightly wooded, with a small brook running through the middle, just large enough to get one’s feet wet. A veritable paradise, and certainly a nice spot to stay and relax for a while.

Currently the smell of frying fish filled the little hollow as strong-scented gray smoke climbed up towards the noonday sun. Ace had pitched his tent in the shade of the trees but had moved out into the light to start a fire with the small watch glass he carried with him for just that purpose. Now he was resting, stretched out on his coat, enjoying the just-a-bit-too-warm sunshine. All was at peace.

"Ah, it was? Thanks for saying that. Many people just get scared by it in this country…." He sighs once more. "If anything, I owe you another favor. As thanks for keeping an eye out while I napped."

"You don’t owe me anything, your majesty~" Of course if Ace found himself seriously needing something he might fall back on the king’s help. But quite frankly he didn’t trust himself to be near people when he was seriously in trouble.

"If you say so, then alright. But I’ll keep it in mind, even if you don’t." Tridekas responds, idly skimming the surface of the stream and launching a stream of water slowly spiraling into the air.

"Well there’s not a lot I can do about that, haha." Ace’s eyes were fixed on the stream of water, but his attention was elsewhere; had he heard something moving on the ridge above them just then? There were various types of wildlife around of course, but this had sounded larger.

((Wow, I haven’t been on here in a while! I wholeheartedly apologize and kindly ask for my followers’ forgiveness. I’m working full time this summer which only leaves me about 4 hours in the evenings to actually do things, and most of the time I’m so burnt out that I just aimlessly scroll through tumblr. ^^; I’m also running a new fandom blog (mostly just queueing and managing but I make some new posts every once in a while) and recently got into a new video game series, so that’s been eating up any remaining free time. I’m here now though, to do replies, answer questions, and probably reblog some memes!))

— ❝I…❞ She swept her gaze across the room, wondering it herself. She could’ve sworn… wasn’t she in the prison a minute ago? ❝I… walked?❞

"I have a thermos!" the knight proclaimed cheerily, banging one of his pockets. Sure enough, a dull, hollow metallic sound emitted from under the cloth. "Usually I use it to carry tea, but it’s good for soup too, and it keeps it warm for up to 6 time periods~! Fruit and nuts are good, but those things are what I usually eat once I’ve run out of provisions. If I’m going to bring food from the Castle, I want it to be substantial~"

((♥)) — “For all your wandering, you’re very… organized. It’s kind of admirable,” she remarked. “I guess soup isn’t so bad.” Once they’ve reached the kitchen, Alice conferred to the staff and immediately set to work. Equipped with cooking tools and a mediocre quota of soup knowledge, she turned to him and, with a customer service smile, mimicked a waitress. “Welcome to the Castle’s kitchen. May I take your order, sir?”

"Hm~" Playing along as was his forte, Ace squinted at the wall behind Alice’s head, as if reading an imaginary menu. "Haha, I think I’d like chicken noodle soup. As thick as you can make it, with extra noodles please~" If he was going to get soup he wanted it to be substantial, packed with salt and calories that would be needed on the road.

((♥)) — “Chicken noodle soup. Thick with extra noodles. Got it.” With that, she bound her hair into a ponytail and reached for the noodle packet, along with a piece of chicken, vegetable stock, ginger and… A pause. Hesitantly, Alice reached for the cookbook as well. Flipped it to a specific page. Beamed. Then scraped up the other ingredients too. It didn’t hurt to be careful, right?

Ace made no offer of help - after all, the only reason he had passed up on his own supply run was so that someone else could do it for him. However that didn’t mean he wasn’t going to involve himself at all. He seated himself comfortably on a nearby pile of flour sacks, just full enough to provide good support without being hard. With a lazy smile on his face, he watched Alice’s profile leaning over the cookbook and the ingredients and hummed tunelessly.

"Ah, you are so kind, my dearest." Aro uttered, his words dripping with sarcasm. If Ace was able to deal with any of the planning, he would happily welcome the help, but for now it seemed that if he gave the knight any responsibility in this wedding… It would most certainly be abused. Therefore it was probably best he hire a servant or something… Just anyone to assist him and lift the burden of the wedding planning off his shoulders a bit. "If you come across a wedding planner on your travels, send them my way please!"

Ace knew the sound of being let off the hook when he heard it. He broke into an even wider grin, stretching luxuriously and getting up out of his chair. “I will, I will~” His coat was across the back of his chair and his sword leaned against the wall, just within reach; a moment was spent redressing in preparation for travel before he leaned in to press a quick kiss to Aro’s cheek. “I’ll be back before too long, then~”

"Don’t get hurt!" He sighed, trying to shield the blush on his cheeks. It would do no good for the severity of his threat if Ace spotted him blushing like a foolish teenager. "Or I swear I will break your legs, Ace!" He knew by now it was no good to trust the knight’s judgements on how long he would be away, it’d only result in Ace getting lost, as long as the knight came back for their wedding… That was all that mattered, and Ace knew better than to miss an event of that much importance. Or at least that was what he had hoped.

Ace did manage to return by the wedding, even a couple of time periods before it - he was in a generous mood, and as much as he did like driving his soon-to-be husband up the wall, he recognized a deal-breaker when he saw one.
